His work has taken him to major venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall, and Madison Square Garden. In addition to performance preparation, he previously taught piano building at the Steinway factory, strengthening his deep understanding of instrument design, mechanical precision, and long-term care. He became a Bösendorfer artisan in 2019 at the company's factory in Austria and is a Shigeru Kawai technician. He has worked closely with every major piano brand, including Steinway, Fazioli, Bösendorfer, Bechstein, Blüthner, Yamaha, Shigeru Kawai, Schimmel, Steingraeber, Grotrian, and many more. His work emphasizes reliability, musical sensitivity, and consistent excellence.
Matthew Banks is a concert piano technician with extensive experience supporting world-class artists and leading institutions. His background includes work as a Concert and Artist Technician at Steinway & Sons New York, serving as Head Technician at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and Chief Technician at Faust Harrison Pianos. He currently serves as Chief Technician at the Brevard Music Festival, where he spends his summers supporting a full season of performances and artists.
